1. Welcome to AimBack
AimBack helps businesses automate customer engagement through WhatsApp. With AimBack you can:
- Recover abandoned customers
- Re-engage inactive customers
- Automate follow-ups
- Create customer journeys
- Track campaign performance
- Increase repeat purchases
Why this setup is required
To use WhatsApp automation, you must connect a WhatsApp Business Account through Meta and Gupshup. This one-time onboarding links your number to AimBack so campaigns, chat and analytics can run.
2. How WhatsApp Integration Works
Every message flows through four layers. AimBack sits at the top and orchestrates your automation.
| Component | Responsibility |
|---|---|
| Meta | Owns the WhatsApp Business Platform and approves your business & display name. |
| Gupshup | Official BSP (Business Solution Provider) that provides API access to WhatsApp. |
| AimBack | Automation, campaigns, chat inbox and analytics built on top of the API. |
3. Before You Begin
Make sure you have all of the following ready before starting. Having these on hand makes the process take only a few minutes.
Important about your phone number
The number you connect must be able to receive an OTP and must not already be registered on the WhatsApp Business API with another provider. Once connected to the API, it can no longer be used in the personal WhatsApp / WhatsApp Business app (unless you use Coexistence — see Scenario D).
4. Choose Your Setup Method
Pick the path that matches your situation, then jump to that scenario's full walkthrough.
Scenario A — Create a New WhatsApp Business Number → Section 6
Use if: you do not yet have a WhatsApp Business Account and want a dedicated automation number.
Scenario B — Connect an Existing WhatsApp Business Number → Section 7
Use if: you already use the WhatsApp Business App, want to keep the same number, and already have a Meta Business Account.
Scenario C — Configure a Display Number / Display Name → Section 8
Use if: you created a WABA and need to configure the number or branded name customers see on incoming messages.
Scenario D — Enable WhatsApp Coexistence → Section 9
Use if: you want to keep using the WhatsApp Business App and run AimBack automation on the same number.
5. Understanding the Shared Onboarding Flow
All scenarios use the same Meta + Gupshup wizard. The screens are identical — scenarios differ only at two decision points. Each walkthrough below is complete and self-contained; the diverging steps are highlighted in amber.
| Decision point | Scenario A · Create New | Scenario B · Existing | Scenario C · Display |
|---|---|---|---|
| Step 7WhatsApp Business Account | Create a new WABA | Select your existing WABA | New or existing WABA |
| Step 9Phone number / identity | Add a new number + OTP | Enter your existing number + OTP | Use a display name only (or set display number) |
About the screenshots
All screens come from one live AimBack setup. Where a scenario needs a screen we did not capture live (e.g. selecting your existing account), a clearly marked placeholder shows exactly which screenshot to add later.
